Do you want to build muscle and create definition in your arms? If that is the case, then all you will need is some hand weights. Low budget hand weights can be soup or vegetable cans. If you can budget in purchasing some hand weights go for it.

I started with five and eight pound weights but it would not be a bad idea to actually pick them up and see what weights would be best for you. You may need to build muscle with two and five pound weights to begin with. Or perhaps you are ready with eight and ten pounds, it is an individual choice. I just like to listen to my body, it will let me know when I am ready increase my weight.
 
Simple hand weight routines will build muscle if they are done a minimum of two to three times per week. The repetition of movement should fatigue the muscles. A day of rest in between workouts would be a good idea. Then do the routine again to a point of tiring the muscles. I have found that this pattern will build muscle and create definition in your arms quickly.
